WISDOM FOR THE DAY DEVOTIONAL
By Bishop Mike Okonkwo
MONDAY 2nd MARCH 2026
TOPIC: BE A WISE CHRISTIAN
“Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.” – Matthew 25:1–4 (KJV)
According to the Scriptures, the wise virgins took oil with them. These represent believers who, after receiving salvation, continue to seek the Lord and grow in knowledge, understanding, and intimacy with Him. They never assume they have “arrived.” Like the Apostle Paul, they keep pressing forward to know Christ more deeply each day.
Beloved, the wise believer is one who continually seeks to understand his identity and purpose in Christ. Such a believer constantly asks: Who am I in Christ? What do I have in Christ? What can I do through Christ? What authority do I carry? How can I live victoriously in a world filled with temptations? What does God require of me now that I am saved?
When Paul encountered the Lord on the road to Damascus, he asked, “…Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?” And the Lord replied, “Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.” (Acts 9:6 KJV). The wise Christian understands that after salvation comes submission to divine instruction. It is unwise to neglect spiritual training and guidance.
The wise took oil in their lamp, this signifies obedience. They followed instructions wholeheartedly. When told to give, they gave. When called to pray, they prayed. When encouraged to serve, they served. These believers are teachable, passionate, and fully engaged in the things of God.
They do not rebel or hold back. Their gifts and spiritual fire keep increasing because they continually yield to the Holy Spirit and live out their reality in Christ, aware that they are in a spiritual battle here on earth.
Beloved, choose to be among the wise, those who stay aflame for the Lord, ever learning, ever growing, and ever obedient to His call.
