TOPIC: CHRIST CANCELED OUR LEGAL INDEBTEDNESS

FRIDA

“Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” Colossians 2:14-15 KJV

We thank God for the gift of Jesus, even more so, the price that He paid on the cross of Calvary for our redemption. The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross was perfectly perfect and completely complete. His resurrection from the grave put a seal on the devil’s defeat. This distinguishes the Christian faith from any other faith.

It is vitally important that we have an understanding of what Christ did and what the victory He wrought on our behalf means to us. Jesus’ death on the cross is not a religious exercise. It was a victory over death, the grave, and whatever hell has to offer.

Apostle Paul, writing to the church in Colossae, figuratively describes what Christ’s death accomplished for the believer. “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us…” In other words, Christ cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness.

The word “cancelled”, from the original Greek, means to wipe out or wash. Metaphorically, this connotes a removal or obliteration of whatever used to be. By “our legal indebtedness”, this agrees totally with the scripture, as stated in Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (KJV).

Every single one of us, before receiving redemption through Christ, was a legal slave and a captive of sin. We had the overbearing weight of sin and eternal condemnation hanging over our heads, which empowered the devil to table accusations against us before the Father.

But Christ, through His death, has utterly destroyed everything that gave the enemy a legal hold over your life. By the reason of the price that He paid on the cross of Calvary, the enemy can no longer bring any accusation whatsoever against you before God. That tells you that you have total victory.
