TOPIC: COMMITMENT PAYS
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” – Revelation 12:11 KJV
Beloved, what does scripture mean by “they loved not their lives unto the death”? It speaks of commitment. A resolve so strong that even if standing costs you everything, you would rather stand than bow. It is the posture of men and women who refuse to quit.
In 2 Kings 7:3-4, the four lepers captured this spirit. They said, “Why sit we here until we die? If we enter the city, the famine is there. If we sit here, we will still die. Let us go to the camp of the Syrians; if they spare us, we live; if they kill us, we die.” That is commitment. That is courage. They refused to just sit and waste away.
David felt the same pressure in Psalm 27:13 when he said, “I had fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” In other words, life almost knocked him out. His feet were wobbling. Circumstances tried to crush him. But even when he slipped, he stood up again. He would rather keep believing than compromise.
This is the attitude God wants from us. Even when doctors say it won’t work, even when the economy is shaking, even when every door seems shut, we say, “I believe God. It shall be well. I will not beg for bread.”
In adversity, God steps in and turns things around. Esther understood this. She said, “If I perish, I perish.” Did she perish? No. God used her to save an entire nation.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego echoed the same unshakeable conviction. They told the king, “Our God is able to deliver us. But even if He doesn’t, we will not bow.” They loved not their lives unto death. And in the end, their commitment was rewarded. God showed up in the fire, and they came out without even the smell of smoke.
This is what Revelation 12:11 is pointing to. Commitment. Loyalty. A faith that does not shrink. And those who carry this spirit always overcome.
