FOR I KNOW HIM
By Bishop Mike Okonkwo

Sunday 19th June 2022

“For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.” Genesis 18:19 (KJV)

Avery Happy Father’s Day to every Father reading this devotional. Thank God for your lives, your sacrifice, your commitment and dedication to ensuring that the family fulfills God’s plans and purpose.

Our text above, was God’s testimony concerning Abraham, and in the same vein, God wants to be able to have the same testimony concerning every Christian father. God expects fathers to direct their families in the way of the Lord, reason why He has placed you in the position of leadership over the family.

Fathers have the chief responsibility of serving their families; I know that many times we confuse the role of “head of the family” as being the “Boss” that everyone must serve, but in all honesty, the reverse is God’s expectation for fathers. In serving your family, it is the father’s responsibility to set the spiritual tone of the home. You must set aside time everyday to pray and study the Word together as a household. You must ensure that your family is well planted in God’s vineyard and serving God in different capacities. Teach your family how to give to God, to walk in love, to be led by the Spirit, and these things are not done by just speaking about it, but by demonstration.

God’s testimony concerning you as a father must be that “I know him, that he will command his entire household after me…”, and watch Him beautify your family, and take you all from one glory to another.

I pray for every father reading this today, for fresh grace and wisdom to function effectively in your role. I bless you today in Jesus’ name, Amen.
