GOD IS LOVE
By Bishop Mike Okonkwo

Monday 6th February 2023

“And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.” 1 John 4:16 (KJV)

Love has been defined in various ways. Some have defined love as a feeling. So, when the person you love comes around you, you feel different, there is excitement in the air, and you have some goose pimples. But is that really love? Does that mean when there are no goose pimples there is no more love?

Some have defined love as giving. The more you give, the more love they feel. But love is more than giving otherwise what it then means is that when there is nothing to give there is no love. No, love is not a feeling and it is beyond action, Love is the perfect description of God. Unlike human beings that develop a love for people and have love, God does not have love, neither does He develop love, HE IS LOVE.

God is love personified. So, the person to go to understand love is God – He does not have love, He does not grow in love, He is Love. That is why the only solid foundation you can plant your love on is the word of God. He will show you the best way to love your spouse because we are all different and He knows us and loves us just as we are.

I celebrate those who have gone out of their way to research the concept of love and come up with the 5 main love languages. In the coming days, we will look at them in the light of the scriptures. My goal is that this month, every sick home will be healed in Jesus’ name. The starting point of love is God Himself. Do you have a relationship with God? Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour? Having Jesus in your life is the first step to having Jesus in your home. If you are yet to accept Him into your life, simply bow your heart and say “Lord Jesus, today I accept you into my life as my personal Lord and Savior”. It is that simple. At the back of this book is a prayer and further steps, please refer to it.
