WISDOM FOR THE DAY DEVOTIONAL

TOPIC: GOD LOOKS AT THE HEART
“But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7 (KJV)
Beloved, it is concerning to see people who claim to be Christians yet tell lies freely. They lie about things that require no deception, sometimes just to get by. If they can get by with people, what about God, who sees everything in secret?
For such individuals, the end justifies the means. Their focus is on personal gain rather than advancing the Kingdom of God. This is truly shameful. At times, I feel embarrassed being called a man of God because it seems normal now for ministers and believers to be criticized openly on social media.
Unfortunately, we have opened the door to this. In many ways, there is no real difference between some Christians and the world. We can compromise our calling for mere temporary gain.
But remember, it is not about what people call you or say about you. What truly matters is who you are when no one is watching. What do you do in private? What character do you exhibit in moments where uou are not seen by others?
Consider Eliab, who appeared dignified and glorious in the eyes of men. He was tall, commanding respect, and celebrated by all. Yet God said to Samuel: “Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature…” 1 Samuel 16:7.
God does not evaluate by appearances or accomplishments. He does not measure success by cathedrals built, ministries led, or crowds gathered.
God looks at the heart. You can impress people with what you have built or the image you portray, but you cannot impress God with outward appearances. Let your heart, your integrity, and your inner life reflect Him. That is what truly counts.
