.GRACE TEACHES US TO LIVE FOR GOD

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men. Teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lust, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.” Titus 2:11-12 KJV

Beloved, grace is not a license to sin. Rather, it empowers you to go and sin no more! Each time the issue of righteous living is discussed, some Christians are quick to say: “but we are living by grace.” Yes, that is true, but the grace of God teaches us to live righteously. If you truly understand the message of grace, you will discover that it is not a license to sin but it’s an empowerment to live for God. This understanding makes you appreciate the love of God and reject sin.

A man was arrested and taken to court for a traffic offense. According to the law, the offense will attract a fine plus a jail period of 5 months. The man pleaded guilty. However, rather than sentence him, the judge looked at him and said: “I know you are supposed to go to jail. According to the records, you deserve the punishment. But I have decided to let you go. You will not pay the fine and you will not go to jail.” Now the judge didn’t stop there. He said: “I’m going to make sure that this very event that has happened will not go into record of the court that you ever came to court. I am going to wipe it out.” That is remission. That is what God has done for us. That is mercy and grace reaching out to you.

But as the man was about to step out of the court, the judge called him back and said to him, “don’t ever allow yourself to be brought to this court again.” In other words, “go and sin no more; I have set you free.” However, the fact that I set you free should not be a license for you to continue breaking the rules. When you truly appreciate mercy and grace, you really don’t want to break the law again.
