HAPPY FATHERS’ DAY
Dr. Mike Okonkwo

20 June, 2021

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;”
Ephesians 5:25 (KJV)

Today, as the world celebrates fathers, I thank God for all the married men all over the globe that the Lord has brought our way. To every man who has taken his stand as the head, the priest and the watchman over the home, I truly salute you. Thank you for all you do for the family.
I want to point here that a father is not just one who planted the seed that brought you into the world; a father is much more than that. He is God’s representative in the family. In view of this, I challenge every child to truly honour his or her father. Your father may not have it all together, but it is still your responsibility to honour and respect your father. Wives, irrespective of what you earn, honour and respect your husband. Show your children by example that your husband is truly the head of the home. Defer to him.

Fathers, please ignite the family altar. Don’t wait for your wife or children to start praying then you walk in as an August visitor to share the grace. No, take the lead; show them what it means to love the Lord and to meditate in His word. Share words of encouragement with them. Don’t carry the weight and die in silence, share your burdens. Let the family be the place where true love dwells indeed.

Parents, come together in agreement to advise the children. Don’t be that family where the husband turns left and the wife turns right. Let there be agreement. Even when there are issues, settle it behind closed doors. Let the children grow up in an atmosphere of love and acceptance. There is no sin that cannot be forgiven, so there should be nothing like irreconcilable differences. I implore you men, love your wives. Wives, submit to your husbands and children love and respect your parents. If we maintain the biblical order in the home, it will be the haven that God intended it to be.
