WISDOM FOR THE DAY DEVOTIONAL
By Bishop Mike Okonkwo
FRIDAY 23rd JANUARY 2026
TOPIC: HEAR THE WORD OF THE LORD
“Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.” – 2 Kings 7:1 (KJV)
To understand this passage, we must first look at the background. At this time in Samaria, the situation was dire, beyond human reasoning or repair. The famine had become so severe that people had resorted to eating human flesh. Parents were even eating their own children. It was an unimaginable crisis brought on by disobedience.
But just when all hope seemed lost, God stepped in. He sent a Word through His servant, the Prophet Elisha, and within twenty-four hours, everything changed. The famine was turned into abundance by a single Word from the Lord.
Beloved, that is how powerful the Word of God is. You must learn to hold on to and leverage every Word that God gives you. Our God is a speaking God, and He works through His Word.
When God speaks, He is not announcing what He intends to do, He is revealing what has already been perfected in eternity. His Word is a finished reality waiting for you to believe it.
“He sent His word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” – Psalm 107:20 (KJV)
Elisha declared, “Hear ye the word of the LORD…” – not the word of a man, not human reasoning, not philosophical ideas or motivational talk, but the Word of the Lord. That’s the difference between empty speech and divine revelation.
A true prophetic word doesn’t entertain; it points you to what is already available in Christ. It reveals what God has completed on your behalf and gives you divine direction for your next step.
That’s why chasing after prophets for trivial confirmations is a waste of time. Why would you need someone to tell you your name or describe your clothing? You already know that. But when a man of God declares what Heaven has settled, something beyond human comprehension, that’s a Word worth holding on to.
So, never trivialise the Word of the Lord. It is your lifeline, your compass, and your victory.
