WISDOM FOR THE DAY DEVOTIONAL
By Bishop Mike Okonkwo

MONDAY 19TH JANUARY 2026

TOPIC: IT IS A FINISHED WORK

“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” – John 19:30 (KJV)

Many believers still struggle to live by what Christ has already accomplished for us. Yet the truth remains, it is a finished work. The cross marked the completion of redemption, not its beginning. You must therefore choose to remove the veil of religion and rest in what Christ has done. God did not call you to help Him; He already completed the work.

Beloved, our journey of faith begins from a place of completion. We start from victory because Jesus finished the work. Your triumph in life is already guaranteed. Scripture declares: “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” – 1 John 5:4–5 (KJV)
Your part is simple: believe in the finished work of Christ. Jesus Himself said, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” – Mark 9:23 (NKJV)
When God gave you Jesus, He gave you His very best. When He gave you the Holy Spirit, He gave you His all. There is nothing more left for Him to give, only for you to discover what He has already made available in Christ.

That’s why you’ll never find Apostle Paul praying for more blessings or power. Instead, he prayed for revelation: “Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers… the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.” – Ephesians 1:15–16, 18 (NKJV)
Paul wanted believers to live with their faith grounded not in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God (1 Corinthians 2:5 KJV). What you need today is not more effort, but more revelation, the unveiling of truth that comes from feeding consistently on the Word of God.

This gospel; the message of Christ’s finished work, is what truly changes lives. We have “played church” for too long, relying on methods, traditions, and emotions. It is time to return to the gospel, for in it lies the transforming power of God.
