WISDOM FOR THE DAY DEVOTIONAL
BY BISHOP MIKE OKONKWO

FRIDAY 13th MARCH 2026

TOPIC: THE GOODNESS OF GOD TURNS YOU TO HIM

“Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?” – Romans 2:4 (KJV)

Beloved, the Bible, in its entirety, points to Christ. Every page, every story, every prophecy ultimately reveals Him. Christ is the essence of the Scriptures, the message at the heart of it all. Everything else is secondary.
Many preach today, but not everyone preaches the gospel. You can recount biblical stories, like how Elisha received a double portion of the anointing, and that is instructive, but it is not the gospel. The gospel is not about the acts of men; it is about what Christ accomplished through His death, burial, and resurrection. If a message does not point to Jesus and His finished work, it is incomplete.

The Cross is the ultimate expression of God’s goodness toward humanity. It is His kindness made manifest to bring us back to Him. Consider how God dealt with His people in the Old Testament: He disciplined them repeatedly, yet they refused to return. “Also I gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, And lack of bread in all your places; Yet you have not returned to Me,” says the Lord – (Amos 4:6 NKJV).
God then took matters into His own hands. He said, in effect, “You cannot save yourselves. I will come personally to rescue you. I will enter your world, step into your circumstances, and reveal Myself so you can receive Me.” And that is exactly what Jesus did.

This is why preaching the gospel is so vital: it is the revelation of the goodness of God. The gospel shows people that God’s kindness is not passive; it actively pursues them, leading them to repentance and restoring them to Himself.

Beloved, never lose sight of this truth: the gospel is not a set of stories or moral lessons, it is the demonstration of God’s goodness through Christ, making salvation and life available to all who receive Him.
