UNDERSTAND YOUR IDENTITY
By Bishop Mike Okonkwo

“Moreover David said, “The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!” I Samuel 17:37 (NKJV)

David was not able to. His ability to stand up to Goliath was because he understood his identity. He understood his relationship. He was not rattled. He knew the word David means Beloved. He knew that he was God’s beloved. And not only that he knew he was God’s beloved, he knew that he has a covenant relationship with God. He addressed Goliath as uncircumcised. In other words, Goliath had no covenant with God, therefore, he had no legal right to defy the armies of Israel. Who is this Goliath? What is this mountain that he will stand before God’s beloved? I know who I am! And my relationship with God is not based on what I do or do not do. No! It is based on His decision to give me the right standing before Him.

Even Jesus Christ, God ensured that His identity was established and was not rattled before He started ministry. In the book of Matthew 3:17, the Father declares: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” In essence, the Father was saying to Jesus: “I want you to understand that you are my Son. And my relationship with you and your standing before me is established. Nothing can change it! Nothing can rattle it! It is an established relationship”.

This is one revelation that you must understand. You must function from the understanding that your relationship with God and your standing before God are already established. It is an established revelation! It is an established truth! Don’t let your behaviour determine how you stand before God. Ever before your behaviour came on board, God already established that you have a right standing with Him
