WAIT ON THE LORD

“I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry”.
Psalm 40:1 KJV

In Exodus 32, we read of the encounter the children of Israel had, in the wilderness when Moses went up to the mountain to receive the commandments from the Lord. As far as the children of Israel were concerned, Moses was taking too long on the mountain, so they decided to take their destinies in their own hands. They chose a shortcut because they felt they had been abandoned and forsaken. They could not explain why God who spoke through the cloud would take so long in giving the commandments. So they went to Aaron to give them an alternative and he gave them the golden calf.

Before you blame the children of Israel for being impatient; have you thought of how many times you have sought alternatives for yourself? Can you remember how many times you thought God’s timing was not right? Can you remember how many times you thought God was too slow for your liking? Does that not sound like the story of the children of Israel? In their panic, they said to Aaron in Exodus 32:1 ”…Up, make us gods which shall go before us; for as for this Moses the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.” Their impatience and lack of trust led to the making of the golden calf.

Don’t forget that these were the same people that God brought out of Egypt by signs and wonders. Just because there was a temporary delay, they resorted to an alternative. When Moses came down from the mount and saw the evil the children of Israel had committed, in Exodus 32:20 ”he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire and ground it to powder and strawed it upon the water and made the children of Israel to drink of it.” Beloved, the very thing they worshipped was what Moses gave them to drink. That was like poison. They had compromised their faith and they paid for it. That will not be your portion in Jesus’ name. The grace to wait on the Lord is resting upon you.
