HE GAVE US HIMSELF

“Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.”
John 10:17 (KJV)

We live in a world where everyone is racing to overtake the other by all means, even if it means killing, just to prove a point. It is a world of betrayals and covenant breakers. Truce breakers are all over the place; people are ready to cut corners no matter the cost, no one is willing to yield for the other. However, Christianity is just the opposite. It is not just how much we relate to God but how much we relate to one another. It must be both vertical and horizontal.

Jesus showed us the example by laying His life down for us; how much of your life are you willing to give out? Did you know that the only reason Jesus was born was for Him to die? Our text today tells us that the reason the Father loved Him was that He laid down His life to take it again. (John 10:17). It was an intentional and deliberate decision. He came to give His life away.

Matthew 20:18 declares “Even as the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Can you see that? He did not come to be served or lord it over others but used His life to serve others to the point of death. His primary concern was our salvation and He was committed to saving man even with His own life.

All through His earthly ministry, you will see Him serving. The agony of the cross did not stop Him, rather He submitted to the will of His Father (Matthew 26:38-39). The very popular scripture, John 3:16 also centered around giving. “For God so loved the world that He gave …” As believers He left us an example on how we should conduct ourselves, stop living for ourselves. Let your light shine so that He can be glorified (Matthew 5:16).
