HE PAID THE FULL PRICE

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”.
Romans 6:23 (KJV)
By Bishop Mike Okonkwo

Today as we celebrate the death of Jesus, it is important that we remind ourselves of what He did for us.

It is easy to gloss over the death of Jesus, but beloved, even the film “the Passion of Christ” could not relate in detail to what happened on that fateful Friday over 2000 years ago that we celebrate today. Think of it, why will the day of such a gruesome death be termed good? It is simply because of what it portends for the believer today.

When Adam sinned, he activated the curse, and the Bible makes it clear that the wages of sin are death. In fact, He said, the soul that sins shall die (Ezekiel 18:4). It is not negotiable. So, when Jesus came, what did He do? He simply took your place. He came as man, walked on earth as man, was tempted on all counts but never sinned but went on the cross to take on the totality of the sin of man. The Bible says, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Cor. 5:21 KJV). So He did not die for His own sin, because He was sinless – spotless, the devil had nothing on Him. He died representing you.

The work of Jesus on the cross was total. Every suffering He went through was for a purpose. He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, the stripes, 39 in all was for our healing, He took the vinegar that you may not taste any form of bitterness, He hung on the tree to take away the curse, everything He went through was to ensure your total deliverance. Take time today to meditate on the journey to the cross and all that happened on the cross and then thank God for it. Thank Him for paying the price because there is no way you could have approached God if Jesus did not die.
