PUT GOD FIRST
By Bishop Mike Okonkwo

Wednesday 9th July 2025

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew. 6:33 (KJV)

Beloved, I want to encourage you today to make God your first priority. In every area of your life, let Him take the lead. If you fail to plan how to grow in your relationship with God, you’ll find that even your best-laid business or personal plans may fall apart. Why? Because anything not built on God is destined to crumble. Jesus taught in Matthew 7:24–25 that the house built on the rock withstood the storm. That rock is Christ. Life’s storms are inevitable, but the difference lies in your foundation. Put God at the foundation, and your life will stand strong.

God is the only constant in a changing world. He is God all by Himself. He doesn’t need your vote or validation to be who He is. He is the Monarch of the Universe, and His Word is final. So, stop beating about the bush, get intentional. Have a study plan for the year. Have a spiritual growth plan. Plan out prayer times. Service your prayer altar. Put God first in everything that you do, and your life will never be the same again.

If you look at the scripture above in the Amplified version, you will have a clearer understanding of that passage. It says: “But seek (aim at and strive after) first of His entire kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and believing right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.”

Did you see that? Strive after God’s way of doing things. Make His standards your pursuit. Let His righteousness become your measuring stick. When you do, all other things – house, car, money, children, and everything that you need will gravitate to you.

Yes, you may already be spiritually mature. Maybe you pray for hours, fast regularly, or teach others. But remember: there is always more in God. Set new goals. Stretch your spiritual capacity. Go deeper. Climb higher. There is always a next level in your walk with God.
