SERVE GOD WITH THE RIGHT MOTIVE
By Bishop Mike Okonkwo

“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy might.” Deuteronomy 6:5 (KJV)

Beloved, people serve God for different reasons. Some do it out of convenience. Others serve because of what they hope to receive; blessings, breakthroughs, or answered prayers. But here’s the truth: if your service to God is not rooted in love, it won’t last.

The enemy will always test the foundation of your service. If you are serving God because of material blessings, the devil will touch your finances. If you are serving Him because it feels easy or comfortable, the enemy will introduce inconvenience. And when that happens, you may derail in your service, not because God failed, but because your motive wasn’t strong enough to sustain you.

However, when your service is motivated by your pure and unwavering love for God, nothing can stop you. As Solomon wrote, “Many waters cannot quench love” (Song of Solomon6 8:7). That was why Job didn’t break under pressure. Despite his pain, loss, and confusion, he declared: “I know that my Redeemer lives…” – Job 19:25

In essence, God is calling you to love and serve Him with your whole being. This is the only kind of service that endures storms, trials, and temptations. When love is the fuel, perseverance becomes natural.

Remember, love was God’s motive for sending Jesus. “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8). If Jesus could go to the cross for you out of love, then let love be the reason you live and serve Him. Let your prayers, your giving, your volunteering, your worship, and everything you do, flow from a heart of love.
